Franklin C. Powell, 83, of Frazeysburg, Ohio, died at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, September 23, 2004 at his residence. He was born November 21, 1920, the son of the late Harry C. & Bertha McClintock Powell. Mr. Powell was a member of the Maranatha Bible Church, an employee of Armco Steel in the Anealing Dept. where he worked for 30 years, retiring in 1970.He was a veteran of the US Army where he served as a heavy machine gunner in the 182nd Infantry Americal Division. He was in hand to hand combat with the Japanese in the Philippine Islands. Surviving are his wife, Margaret F. Stotts Powell, whom he married May 21, 1941, of the home, four daughters, Marcella R.(Paul) Dunfee of Frazeysburg, Sheila A. (Jeff) Norris, Lynn E. (David) King, and Cathy S.(Michael) Hittle, all of Nashport, Ohio, one son, Dale F. (Carole) Powell of Zanesville, a sister, Virginia (Dayle) Garver of Dresden, a brother, Warren Powell of Newark, a step- brother, James Blatt of Zanesville, fourteen grandchildren and twenty one great grandchildren. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Frances Harper and Eva Harper, by two brothers, Martin Powell and Paul Powell, and one step sister, Joan Freshwater. Friends may call 2 to 4 & 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, September 26, 2004 at the Bolin Funeral Home, 1271 Blue Ave. Zanesville. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Monday, September 27, 2004 at the funeral home with Pastor L. Dale Mc Callister officiating. Burial will follow at Muskingum Presbyterian Cemetery, Nashport with full military rites conducted by VFW George Selsam Post 1058.
