Frederick J. Knaup, 89, of Hopewell, died at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, January 1, 2008 at Genesis Good Samaritan Hospital. He was born September 19, 1918, in Perry County, Ohio, a son of the late Joseph and Anna Buck Knaup. He retired after 32 years of service as an assembler for Dura Corporation. He was a WWII Army Veteran, where he served in the Philippines 37th Infantry Division and was awarded 2 Bronze Stars and was a lifetime member of VFW George Selsam Post #1058. He enjoyed gardening, cutting wood, all outside activities and spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren. Later in life, he enjoyed sitting on the front porch visiting with friends and family. Surviving are a son; William L. (Brenda) Knaup of Hopewell; three daughters, Nancy E. (Terry) Billy of Chandlersville, Freda J. Stoneburner of Hopewell and Bonnie L. (Bill) Kenworthy of Cambridge; eight grandchildren, Michael (Leta) Fuller, John (Jamie Renner) Fuller, Shane (Jennifer) Paul, Stacey (Buck) Musselman, David Stoneburner, Mandy (Tom) Roberts, Joshua (Alyssa Pickering) Knaup and Jason Knaup; twelve great granddaughters and one future, first great grandson; a brother, Joseph Knaup of Zanesville and two sisters, Ruth Ann Lowther of Zanesville and Mildred Cox of Philo. Besides his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Gertrude I. Knaup, who died February 27,1996; a son, Frederick J. Knaup II and two sisters, Geraldine Crabtree and Christine Mock. Friends may call from 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. Thursday, January 3, 2008 at Bolin-Dierkes Funeral Home, 1271 Blue Avenue, Zanesville where funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday at the funeral home with Rev. Steve Dupler officiating. Burial will follow at Mt. Sterling Cemetery. VFW George Selsam Post 1058 will hold full military rites at the grave.
