Frederick Charles Polk

Frederick Charles Polk, 88, of Zanesville, died at 3;49 P.M. Friday, October 12, 2018 at The James Cancer Center, Columbus. He was born July 15, 1930, in Zanesville, a son of the late Charles and Helen Olenchuk Polk. Fred was the owner and operator of Polk Scrap Iron, was a United States Marine serving in the Korean Conflict and was one of the first marines that landed in Korea and was awarded two Purple Heart Medals and was one of the few that was a member of the chosen few He enjoyed raising and racing horses and was a member of the US Trotting Association. Fred loved nothing more than his family and was most happy bailing hay on the family farm which he loved so dearly. Fred went out of this world on his own terms telling people he was the Cialis spokesman and never lost his sense of humor joking till the end. Surviving are his loving wife of 56 years, Linda Butryn Polk, whom he married February 3, 1962 ; daughters, Melinda Polk, Jo (Daniel) Quillia and Laura( Guy) Hastings; a son Frederick C. Polk II; ten grandchildren, Courtney, Mackenzie, Lynzie, Beau, Sloan, Erin, Austin, Lydia, Hunter and Dillon; two great grandsons; Jaxon and Holden. And many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Pete Polk, a daughter Dorothy Polk; a great grandson, Greyson Walker; three brothers, Carl, John and Joe Polk and three sisters, Mary Smith, Roseann Cochran and Carolyn Polk. Friends and family may call from 2-8 P.M. Tuesday, October 16, 2018 at BOLIN-DIERKES FUNERAL HOME, 1271 BLUE AVENUE, ZANESVILLE where funeral services will be held at the funeral home at 11:00 A.M. Wednesday, October 17, 2018 with Fr. Martin Ralko officiating.. Fred will be laid to rest at Mt. Olive Cemetery, Zanesville with full military rites provided by the United States Marines in conjunction with the VFW George Selsam Post 1058 and the American Legion Post 29. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the charity of one's choice in Fred's name.
