George Walter Bailey, 94, of Chandlersville, died at 2:48 A.M. on Friday, April 2, 2021, at Altercare of Thornville. He was born October 11, 1926, in Zanesville, a son of the late George Henry and Mary Florence (Carens) Bailey. He was a veteran of the United States Navy serving during WWII and the Korean Conflict and retired from Robert Neff & Son’s Inc. He was a former member of the Muskingum Valley Boating Association.
He is survived by a daughter, Rebecca S. (Jeff) Robb; three step-sons, Daniel E. (Audra) Smith, Richard A. (Carol Kroft) Smith, and Timothy J. (Diana) Smith; thirteen grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Mabel Irene (Gookins) Bailey whom he married July 14, 1975 and died October 24, 2016, and three brothers, Daniel H., Joe W., and A. Dayle Bailey.
A Graveside Service will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Thursday, April 8, 2021 at Zanesville Memorial Park Cemetery, Zanesville with Chaplain Daniel Fullen officiating. Full Military Honors will be accorded to him by the United States Navy in conjunction with the VFW George Selsam Post 1058 and the American Legion Post 29.
