George M. Brooks Jr.

George M. Brooks Jr., 75, of Zanesville, died at 1:36 A.M. on Tuesday, March 25, 2014, at Genesis Good Samaritan Hospital. He was born October 22, 1938, in Chicago, IL, a son of the late George and Muriel Roth Brooks, and his step mother Helen Brooks. He received his BS from Roosevelt University in Chicago, IL, his Doctorate of Education at Ball State University, and taught Biology at Ohio University-Zanesville from 1975-2006. George enjoyed being a Ham Operator with the call letters KC80Z0, was an avid and experimental cook, and was a member of St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church. Surviving are his wife Joan H. Morrissey Brooks, whom he married August 24, 1968; three daughters, Jennifer Brooks of Minneapolis, MN, Stephanie Brooks of Chicago, IL, and Sarah (Marcus) Brooks of Columbus; four grandchildren, twins George McNamara Brooks and Nora Brooks, Chloe Brooks, and Anneliese Brooks; a twin brother Larry (Surjana) Brooks of Chicago, IL; three sisters, Barbara Halcrow of Spencer, IA, Susan (Steve) Howard of Austin, MN, and Dorothy (Jim) Thompson of Spencer, IA; many nieces and nephews; and his pet dog, Beauty. Friends and family may call from 2:00-4:00 P.M. & 6:00-8:00 P.M. with a Vigil Service at 7:45 P.M. on Friday, March 28, 2014, at the BOLIN-DIERKES FUNERAL HOME, 1271 BLUE AVENUE, ZANESVILLE. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, March 29, 2014, at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church, 144 N 5th Street, Zanesville, with a Dominican Father as Celebrant. He will be laid to rest at Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Zanesville. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Eastside Community Ministries: 221 Stillwell Street, Zanesville, Ohio 43701; or to the Salvation Army: 515 Putnam Avenue, Zanesville, Ohio 43701.
