George W. Murphy Jr.

December 17, 1923 — July 1, 2005

George W. Murphy, Jr., 82, of Hopewell, died at 12:30 p.m. Friday, July 1, 2005 at Genesis Good Samaritan emergency room. He was born February 17, 1923 in Newark, Ohio the son of the late George W. and Leonella Smith Murphy Sr. He was a member of Central Trinity United Methodist Church. Mr. Murphy was a former Vice President of the Alamo Group, retiring 1991. Prior to that he was employed by the Detroit Harvester (Dura Corp) for 34 years, retiring in 1979 as General Manager. He was a Army Veteran of World War II, a member of the American Legion, Post 756 at Gratiot where he served as Adjutant General, past active in the United Way and the Goodwill Industries where he served on the Board of Directors. He was a past member of the Zanesville Country Club and a member of the Rotary Club where he received the Paul Harris Award. Surviving are his wife, Jane A. Kulick Murphy, whom he married December 4, 1981, of the home, one son, George W. (Ellen) Murphy III of Newark, a daughter Patti Murphy of Zanesville, step daughters, Pam Martin of Hebron, and Vicki (John) Wheeler of Zanesville, grandchildren, Troy Murphy, Scott Murphy, Brooke Murphy, Jodi Ross, John Wheeler, Katie Wheeler, Tracie Gilligan, Melissa Gilligan and Kevin Gilligan,Great grandchildren, Nick Ross, Wade Ross, Natasha Coakley, Kayla Gilligan, Allison Coakley, Sara Gilligan, Britaney Gilligan, Cody Barker, D. J. Barker, Ciara Murphy, Noah Murphy, Benjamin Benion and Brianna Teetsel. A niece Jan Teter of Stowe Ohio an a nephew Jeff Murphy of CA. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Elmer Murphy and Robert Dean Murphy (World War 2 ). Friends may call 2 to 4 & 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, July 5, 2005 at the Bolin-Dierkes Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 1271 Blue Ave., Zanesville, Ohio. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, July 6, 2005 at the funeral home with the Rev. Tom England officiating. Burial will follow at Poplar Fork Cemetery, Gratiot Ohio. VFW George Selsam Post 1058 will hold military services at the gravesite.
