Glenn Martin Gardner, 85, of Zanesville, died at 7:18 a.m. Tuesday, October 21, 2008 at Genesis Good Samaritan Hospital. He was born December 14, 1922, in Zanesville, a son of the late Earl and Abbie Bates Gardner. He was a U.S. Navy Veteran of 6 years, serving in World War II. He was employed for 13 years in the driver's license division for the Ohio State Highway Patrol, 5 years as a corrections officer at the correctional facility in Columbus, 18 years as a transportation supervisor for the Zanesville City Schools, 10 years at Big Lots and he taught driver's training for 18 years for Easy Method. Glenn had an unusual sense of humor and loved his little dog, Teddy. Surviving are his wife of 55 years, Shirley McClurg Gardner, whom he married June 6, 1953, of the home; a son, Larry Gardner of Zanesville; two daughters, Tammy Gardner of New Albany and Cheryl Gardner of Gahanna; a grandson, Chase Gardner of Gahanna; a sister, Evelyn (John) Rehl of Zanesville; a sister-in-law, Marilyn (Gene) Bollinger of Zanesville; two brother-in-laws, Denver McClurg and Dean McClurg, both of Zanesville; many cousins and friends; special friends Mary Makkai of New Albany and Carolyn Berry of Gahanna. Friends may call 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, October 22, 2008 at the Bolin-Dierkes Funeral Home, 1271 Blue Ave., Zanesville. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, October 23, 2008 at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Zanesville Memorial Park Cemetery. VFW George Selsam Post #1058 will hold full military rites at the graveside.
