Grace Vangelderen

Grace Dunlap Tyo VanGelderen, 93, of LaFontaine, Indiana, passed peacefully to be with her Lord, Saturday, February 2, 2013, at Rolling Meadows Healthcare Center in LaFontaine. She was born April 24, 1919, in Zanesville, Ohio to Albert and Edna (Kovaleski) Dunlap. Grace was predeceased by her first husband, Kenneth Paul Tyo, in 1957, and by her second husband, Lewis J. VanGelderen, in 1991. She had resided at Rolling Meadows since July 2007, coming from Orlando, Florida and was a long time resident of Zanesville. She is survived by 2 sons, Ronald P. (Caroline) Tyo of Apopka, Florida, and Larry L. (Suzanne) Tyo of Wabash, Indiana; 4 grandchildren, Melinda Tyo of Indianapolis, Indiana, Dr. Brian Tyo of Columbus, Georgia, Randy (Sherry) Tyo of Jensen Beach, Florida, and Melissa (Jay) Tyo-Grooten of Apopka; 7 great-children, Jacob Tyo of Columbus, Amber (Gary) Ducote of Stuart, Florida, Austin (Nikki) Tyo of Stuart, and William Tyo and Wendy Tyo, both of Jensen Beach, Loren Cate of Apopka, and Zachary Grooten of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; 1 great-great grandson, Maximus Ducote of Stuart; sister, Geraldine (Don) Davis of Hopewell, Ohio; 2 brothers, Clem (Elizabeth) Dunlap of Sonora, Ohio, and Leonard (Shirley) Dunlap of Troy, Ohio. She was predeceased in death by 4 brothers, Charles, Albert, Colvin, and George, and sister, Mildred McHenry. Grace was part of the so called "Greatest Generation", caring for 2 sons while husband Paul served in the Army. After WWII, she worked in industry to provide for the family and to partner in attaining family goals. She was outstanding in all facets of homemaking especially in cooking and baking from scratch, as well as sewing, needle work, and gardening. In 1957 they set out on a new adventure, relocating to Lake Worth, Florida where Paul died suddenly within two months. She decided to stay, starting a new career in cosmetology. A new love developed in 1962 and she married Lewis, owner of a Lake Worth appliance store. In their working and retirement years, they enjoyed travelling, fishing, church life, and family events, residing in Florida, and summering in Ohio. Golf was a passion which thrilled her immensely. All her life she excelled in the home, and included hobbies of pottery and painting. Through it all she loved the Lord. Services will be held Friday, February 8th at the Bolin-Dierkes Funeral Home, 1271 Blue Avenue, Zanesville, Ohio at 11:00 a.m. with the Rev. Ray Morrison officiating. Family and friends may visit beginning at 10:00 a.m. Burial will follow at Poplar Fork Cemetery, Gratiot, Ohio.
