Harlan L. Barnes

Harlan L. Barnes, 92, of Zanesville, died at 5:15 P.M. on Wednesday, January 6, 2016, at the Willow Haven Nursing Home. He was born June 3, 1923, in Woodsfield, a son of the late Raymond and Mary Hague Barnes. He had worked in Batch and Tank for Brockway Glass where he retired after 40 years of service. Harlan was a faithful member of St. James Episcopal Church, a charter member of the Washington Township Volunteer Fire Department and squad for 46 years, and the National Rifle Association. He was an avid hunter and fisherman but most importantly, he enjoyed every minute he spent with his family. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Gladys Wood Barnes, whom he married on June 24, 1956; two daughters, Carolyn (Albert) Taylor of Zanesville and Amy Jo Barnes of Westerville; a son, David H. Barnes of Zanesville; three grandchildren, Michael (Ann) Taylor of Granville, Annmarie (Bill) Shoemaker of Grove City and Brandon Barnes of Zanesville; six great grandchildren; a special nephew, Terry (Susan) Nichols; several nieces and nephews; and two special pets, Shadow and Autumn. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four sisters, Dora Jean Barnes, Marguerite Church, Daisey Morris and Amy Nichols; two brothers, Bernard and Harold Barnes; an infant granddaughter Alanna Taylor; and two beloved pets, Amber and Bubba. Friends and family may call from 3:00-6:00 P.M. on Sunday, January 10, 2016, at the BOLIN-DIERKES FUNERAL HOME, 1271 BLUE AVENUE, ZANESVILLE, and from 10:00-11:00 A.M. on Monday, January 11, 2016, before the graveside service which will follow at 11:30 A.M. at Zanesville Memorial Park Cemetery, Zanesville, with Father Willman officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Washington Twp Fire Dept: 2310 Adamsville Road, Zanesville, OH 43701 ; Remembrance at St. James: 155 N 5th Street, Zanesville, OH 43701; and Hospice of Central Ohio: 2269 Cherry Valley Road, Newark, OH 43055.
