Harold James Hayes

April 18, 1926 — August 2, 2015

Harold James Hayes, 89, of Zanesville, died at 8:30 A.M. on Sunday, August 2, 2015 at Genesis Hospice- Morrison House. He was born April 18, 1926, in Ava, OH, a son of the late Homer I. and Roxie Gill Hayes. He was a United States Army Veteran of World War II, had been a truck driver and retired in 1989, and was a lifetime member of VFW George Selsam Post #1058, American Legion, and Fraternal Order of the Eagles #302. Surviving are a daughter Kathy Abbott of Zanesville; two sons, James D. Hayes of Zanesville and Rodney L. (Lori) Hayes of Hamden, OH; a step-sister Olive Taylor of Zanesville; six grandchildren, Randy, Josh, Drew, Alex, Morgan and Joe; four great grandchildren; and 1 great great grandchild. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Betty L. (Sims) Hayes, whom he married October 9, 1948, and who died July 2, 1994; two sisters, Marjorie Glover and Bertha Fulton; a step-sister Margaret Kovach; and a step-brother William Harper. Friends and family may call from two hours prior to the funeral service which will be held at 1:00 P.M. on Thursday, August 6, 2015, at the BOLIN-DIERKES FUNERAL HOME, 1271 BLUE AVENUE, ZANESVILLE, with Mr. Jason Cole officiating. He will be laid to rest next to his beloved wife Betty at St. Paul Cemetery, Sonora, with full military honors being presented by the United States Army in conjunction with VFW George Selsam Post #1058.
