Harry B. Hiestand

Harry Bruce Hiestand,74, of Zanesville, died at 5:00 a.m. Tuesday, December 18, 2007 at his residence. He was born May 28, 1933, in Newark, Ohio, a son of the late Harry W. and Hilda G. Bowman Hiestand. He graduated from New Concord High School Class of 1951 and then graduated from the Cleveland School of Welding in 1953. Bruce previously owned Tiki Sign Company in Kaneoheo, Hawaii, served as a missionary for two years in Texas, where he met his future wife. He then went on to become a union carpenter in Los Angeles, CA. then working in Carpenters Union # 267 in Dresden. He attended St. Thomas Catholic Church. Bruce was an artist who enjoyed Folk Art and was a member of ZAAP. Surviving are his wife of 37 years, Ophelia Hernandez Hiestand, whom he married July 22, 1970, of the home; two sons, York Ryan (Jennifer) Hiestand and Cody Hiestand, all of Zanesville; two brothers, Jeff (Julie) Hiestand of Payson, Utah and Darryl (Carolyn) Hiestand of Lancaster; four sisters, Donna (William) Noble of Corrales, New Mexico, Janice (Joe) Dierkes of Clarington, Sharon (Jim) Haldeman of Norwich and Rita Josselyn of Zanesville and many nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by three sisters, Arla Johnson, Lois Hawkins and Janell Bruns and a brother, Carl Hiestand. Friends may call from 11:00 a.m. till service time at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, December 20, 2007 at Bolin-Dierkes Funeral Home, 1271 Blue Avenue, Zanesville with Fr. Emmanuel Bertrand officiating. A caring cremation will follow the service with burial at a later date.
