Harry D. "Jack" Lewis

Harry D. (Jack) Lewis, 94, of Zanesville, went to be with the Lord at 2:50 p.m. on Wednesday, April 4, 2012. Jack was born July 25, 1917, in Blue Rock, Ohio, the son of the late Clarence and Ada Mae (Chriss) Lewis. He worked as an automobile mechanic most of his adult life. He began his career with Witchie Buick in 1940 and retired from White-Timmons Buick in 1982. Jack then worked for Wright & Imlay Garage for the next fifteen years before retiring again. Jack was a member of First Christian Church on Dresden Road. He was a 68-year member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles 302. He served as a president of the Zanesville Sea Eagles Scuba Club. Jack loved to fly and was an Honorary Member of Experimental Aircraft Association (EAA) #425 and the National EAA. He was very proud of the Luscombe aircraft he built. During WWII, Jack served in the Civil Defense, maintaining ham radios for emergency communication purposes. He continued his love of ham radios after the war and could often be found on the airwaves using his call letters, WA8HFO. Jack is survived by his wife of 46 years, Joanna Lee Buzza. He is also survived by his children: Jack (Cheryl) Lewis, Judy Garvin, Linda (Pat) Norman, Gary Lewis, William (Bill) Lewis and Florence (Flo) Lewis Neff; and three stepdaughters: Velva (David) Eby Zarley, Nancy (Danny) Eby Shipley and Fawn (Brett) Eby Gutridge. Jack had nine grandchildren: Scott (Carol) Norman, Tom (Jennifer) Norman, Michael Lewis, Jeff (Shelly) Garvin, Michael Shipley, Dustin (Elizabeth) Shipley, Brian Zarley, Matthew Zarley, Ashley Gutridge and Wesley Gutridge. Eight great-grandchildren survive him: Torrie & Tarren Norman, Riley Norman, Angela Lewis, Keitha and Shyla Garvin, Emory and Danny Shipley. In addition to his parents, Jack was preceded in death by four brothers, George Smith, Russ Smith, Robert Smith and William Smith; two sisters Peg Smith Wyeth and Margaret Smith Trimper; two son-in-laws Neil Garvin and Richard (Rick) Neff; and his in-laws, William and Rosa Buzza. Friends and family may call from 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. Friday, April 6, 2012 at the Bolin-Dierkes Funeral Home, 1271 Blue Ave, Zanesville where Eagle services will be at 5:45 p.m. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, April 7, 2012 at the funeral home with Rev.
