Helen Louise Foster Shirer, 93, of Adamsville, died at 12:25 a.m. Friday, June 18, 2010 at the Cedar Hill Care Center. She was born August 29, 1916, in Adams Township, Ohio, a daughter of the late Charles and Naomi Vinsel. Helen was the co-owner of Shirer Brothers Meats. She was a member of the Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church, where she enjoyed working on a variety of committees and was in charge of the prayer chain and the serving committee. She was also a member of the Garden Club. Surviving are three step grandchildren: Phil Shirer of Zanesville, Tim (Kelley) Shirer of Elmore, Ohio and Susan (Jeff) Burris of Cambridge, Ohio; a sister-in-law, Eleanor Foster of Zanesville: three nephews, Carl E. (Monine) Funk of Reynoldsburg, Ohio, Geary (Carol) Foster of Sunbury, Ohio and Ronald R. (Maribeth) Shirer of Adamsville: three nieces, Cindie (Carl) Mollenkopf of Pataskala, Ohio, Norma (Dan) Scheffler of Zanesville and Wanda (Charles) McGilton of Adamsville; and numerous great nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Donald N. Shirer, who died February 14, 1988; a step son, George Shirer; a brother, William Foster; a sister, Viola Funk; and a brother-in-law, Raymond Funk. Friends may call from 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. Sunday, June 20, 2010 at the Bolin-Dierkes Funeral Home, 1271 Blue Ave., Zanesville and one hour prior to services at the church. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Monday, June 21, 2010 at the Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church, 400 Pleasant Grove Rd., Zanesville with Pastor Nathan Nordine and Pastor Allan Teter officiating. Burial will follow at New Hope Cemetery, near Adamsville.
