Howard C. Broom

Howard C. Broom, 83, of Zanesville, died at 9:08 a.m. Friday, February 6, 2009 at Genesis Good Samaritan hospital. He was born October 11, 1925, in Alma Ill., a son of the late John Angus and Nellie Belle Schermerhorn Broom. He was the former owner and operator of Howard Service Company. He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ Of Latter-Day Saints, was a former Kiwanian and was a U.S. Army World War II veteran. Surviving are his wife of 33 years, Norma Ruth Kuykendall Broom, whom he married April 16, 1975, of the home; two daughters, Karen Broom of Columbus and Martha Broom of Chapel Hill, N.C.; two sons, Michael (Andrea) Broom of Houston, Texas and Joseph (Jean) Broom of Bountiful, Utah; a sister, Elizabeth Broom of Waynesville, N.C.; a brother, Ernest Broom of St Louis, MO., 16 grandchildren; and10 great grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Lenora Adeline Kettler Broom, who died August 1st, 2006; three sons, Daniel Broom, who died May 2001,Christopher Lee Broom, who died May 1953 and Phillip John Broom, who died April 1, 1960; and five brothers, John, Charles, Richard, Walter and Dale Broom. Friends may call 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, February 9, 2009 at the Bolin-Dierkes Funeral Home, 1271 Blue Ave., Zanesville, and one hour prior to services at the church. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a..m. Tuesday, February 10, 2009 at The Church Of Jesus Christ Of Latter-Day Saints, 3300 Kearns Dr., Zanesville with Bishop Lyle Clark officiating. Burial will follow at Zanesville Memorial Park Cemetery. VFW George Selsam Post 1058 will hold military services at the gravesite In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to the Alzheimer's Association, Canton Area Office, 4815 Munson St., N. W., Canton, Ohio, 44718.
