Hulda Jean (Pickens) Murphey

Hulda Jean "Jean" Murphey, 93, of Hilliard, died at 5:43 P.M. on Thursday, July 2, 2015, at her home. She was born December 10, 1921, in Lewis County, West Virginia, a daughter of the late MaxXerxes Winfred and Minnie Priscilla Wilson Pickens. She married on December 5, 1949, to Raymond Wilmer Murphey who passed away on December 7, 1974. She was a Rosie the Riveter during World War II working in Baltimore, MD, and at Wright Patterson Air Force Base, Dayton, Ohio. In her younger years she worked at Bethesda Hospital in the Dietary Department and at Mosaic Tile. Jean loved to play the piano and listening to piano music as well as other music. She played a little on the guitar too. She enjoyed visits from friends and family and being kept updated on their lives even if only with letters and pictures. She moved to Wellington Village in Hilliard in 2004 meeting lots of new friends and enjoying the entertainment in the community. She is survived by her daughter, Barbara Kay (Philip Scott) King of Columbus and several nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews and great-great nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, and by her brothers, Clyde Sr., Rell, Leonard, Kenneth, and sisters Cala Beatrice Grissom, Deltha Lorene McClain, Nellie Violet Tolewitz Smith Menzie and Vida Pickens. Friends and family may call from 11:00 A.M. till time of service at 1:00 P.M. Wednesday, July 8, 2015 at the BOLIN-DIERKES FUNERAL HOME, 1271 BLUE AVENUE, ZANESVILLE, Chris Steele officiating. She will be laid to rest beside her beloved husband, Raymond, at Zanesville Memorial Park Cemetery, Zanesville.
