James Leo "Burky" Burkhart, 83, of Zanesville, died at 10:20 P.M. on Sunday, April 14, 2013, at Genesis Hospice-Morrison House. He was born July 10, 1929, in Zanesville, a son of the late Nicholas and Ida Nau Burkhart. He was an Army Veteran of the Koran War, and retired as a tool and die maker from Anchor Hocking Glass in 1994. He was a longtime member of St. Thomas Catholic Church, a lifetime member of the Knights of Columbus #505, promoted organ and tissue donation, and he was a recognized donor of over 50 gallons of blood. He loved to hunt, fish, garden, play cards, travel, and could fix anything that was broken. He was a very loving father, grandfather, and great grandfather, who loved spending time with his family and friends. Surviving are his beloved wife, Ann M. Mattingly Burkhart, whom he married September 3, 1955;his eleven children: six daughters, Linda Burkhart, Nancy (Joe) Nash, Anita (Greg) Nessline, Elaine (Joe) Pellatt, Jeanette (Dave) Weinberg, and Beth Ann (Bret) Hickman; five sons, Michael (Cathy) Burkhart, Patrick (Becky) Burkhart, Kent (Wendy) Burkhart, Dean (Erin) Burkhart, and Keith (Heather) Burkhart; twenty-seven grandchildren; two great grandchildren; and two sisters, Mary Devol and Sister Mary Melinda Burkhart O.P. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister Regina Dutro; and a grandson Grant Hickman. Friends and family may call from 2:00-4:00 P.M. & 6:00-8:00 P.M. with a celebration of life/prayer service to be held at 4:00 P.M. on Wednesday, April 17, 2013, at the Bolin-Dierkes Funeral Home, 1271 Blue Avenue, Zanesville. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 A.M. on Thursday, April 18, 2013, at St. Thomas Catholic Church, 144 North 5th Street, Zanesville, with Father Jordan Turano O.P. as celebrant. He will be laid to rest at St. Mary's Mattingly Settlement, Nashport, with full military services.
