James A. "Bill" Carroll, 84, of Adamsville, went home to be with his Lord and Savior at 2:10 p.m. Tuesday, May 26, 2009 at Genesis Good Samaritan Hospital after a brief battle with cancer. He was born September 7, 1924, in Santoy, Ohio, a son of the late Jesse Francis Carroll and Alta Frances Henry Carroll Steve. He was a retired coal miner, where he worked for Jones Coal Mine in Roseville, Boze Brothers Coal Company, Powhatan #1 Mine, Powhatan Point, Ohio, Paulic Mine in Otsego, Duckworth Mine in Otsego and later was a machinist for White Machine Shop in Zanesville. He was a member of Westwood Baptist Church and the American Legion. He was a United States Army World War II Veteran. Surviving are his wife of 61 years, Ruth L. Barnhart Carroll, whom he married November 22, 1947, of the home; nine children, Paula Myers of Coshocton, Joyce (Dan) Hamilton of Glenford, Andrea (Sam) Mitchell of Adamsville, Kathy Carroll of the home, John Carroll of Otsego, Jeff Carroll and Rod Carroll, both of Adamsville, Holly (Pat) Hennessy of Zanesville and Tim Carroll of Adamsville; six half sisters, Louise (George) Zwahlen, Ruth Gibbons, and Virginia Morzosky, all of Zanesville, Mary Browning of Kentucky, Marlene Moore and Betty Miller, both of Zanesville; a half brother, Mike (Marilyn) Steve of Zanesville; 30 grandchildren; 42 great grandchildren; and a great-great granddaughter. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Ronald James Carroll; two great granddaughters; a half brother, George Perdue; a half sister, Viola Hunter; and a son-in-law, Bennett Myers. Friends may call 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. Thursday, May 28, 2009 at the Bolin-Dierkes Funeral Home, 1271 Blue Ave., Zanesville and one hour prior to services at the church. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday, May 29, 2009 at the Westwood Baptist Church, 2395 East Pike, Zanesville, with his grandson, the Rev. Joshua Hamilton and Rev. Steve Chaney officiating. Burial will follow at New Hope Cemetery near Adamsville. VFW George Selsam Post #1058 in conjunction with the United States Army will hold full military rites at the grave site.
