James K. Friel, 66, of Zanesville, died at 5:47 P.M. Monday, October 11, 2021 at Genesis Hospice-Morrison House, Zanesville. He was born April 22, 1955 in Zanesville a son of the late Myles and Dorothy (Totten) Friel. Jim graduated from Zanesville High School Class of 1973 and the University of Cincinnati Class of 1978 with a bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering and enjoyed co-op jobs from Florida to Ohio. He was a member of Ohio Society of Mining Engineers. Jim also worked for Linn Engineering, Central Silica and Horizon Coal. He was a member of Grace United Methodist Church where he was an original member of the hand bell choir. He also served on the board of trustees. He was a past president of Zanesville Athletic Boosters and was a member of Zanesville Soccer Boosters and Jaycees, where he served on the Jaycees Golf Course Committee. Jim loved to play saxophone in the Rusty Knights Band.
Surviving are his loving wife, Carol Huntsman Friel, whom he married November 8, 1980; a daughter, Jennifer Friel of Columbus and a son, Kevin Friel of Charlotte, NC.; a brother, Robert Friel; sister-in-law, Linda Friel; In-Laws, Beth and Fred Bronkar and Susan Long; mother-in-law, Ann Huntsman; nieces, Leigh-Anne (Justin) Moodley, Lindsay Friel and Erin Long; nephews, Jordan(Olivia) Friel, Patrick (Rachel) Friel, Matthew( Kristin) Bronkar and Brian Long.
Friends and family may call from 4-8 P.M. Friday, October 15, 2021 at BOLIN-DIERKES FUNERAL HOME AND CREMATORY, 1271 BLUE AVENUE, ZANESVILLE where services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Saturday, October 16, 2021 with Pastor Karen Montgomery officiating. Interment will be at Zanesville Memorial Park Cemetery, Zanesville at a later date.
In Lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Grace United Church, (BIMM) 516 Shinnick Street, Zanesville, Ohio 43701.
