James H. Kirby, 79, of Zanesville, died at 3:09 A.M. on Thursday, June 28, 2018 at The Oaks at Northpointe, Zanesville. He was born February 5, 1939, in Zanesville, a son of the late Homer James and Nellie Knapp Kirby. He was a United States Army Reserve Veteran of Muskingum County and a member of Market Street Baptist Church. He retired from Ameritech where he was a telephone and cable technician, volunteered as a Scout Council Advisor, a member of Telephone Pioneers and former member of a Barbershop Quartet. Jim was a valuable member of the Bolin-Dierkes Funeral Home family. He is survived by his wife, Mary Lou Hittle Kirby, whom he married August 5, 1992; two sons, Jason W. (Erin) Kirby and Robert (Gail) Sharkey; a daughter, Tammy (Allen) Huffman; seven grandchildren, Grant Kirby, Paige Kirby, Megan (Craig) Young, Katie Clewell, Rachel Sharkey, Jared (Lauren) Huffman, and Stephanie (David) Huff; seven great-grandchildren; two sisters, Barbara Dunmead and Betty Holdcroft; a brother-in-law, Don Cain; sisters-in-laws, Peggy Kenley and Joanne Neal; brothers and sisters-in-laws, Larry (Jane) Hittle and Roger (Ann) Hittle; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Bonnie Cain; and brothers-in-laws, Don Dunmead and Bob Holdcroft. Friends and family may call from 2:00 - 5:00 P.M. on Sunday, July 1, 2018 at the BOLIN-DIERKES FUNERAL HOME, 1271 BLUE AVENUE, ZANESVILLE and one hour prior to funeral services which will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Monday, July 2, 2018, at Market Street Baptist Church, 140 North Sixth Street, Zanesville with Rev. Howard Thompson officiating. He will be laid to rest at Washington Township Baptist Cemetery, Zanesville with full Military Honors being accorded to him by the United States Army in conjunction with the VFW George Selsam Post 1058 and the American Legion Post 29.
