James Garrett Waltermire, 88, of Zanesville, died at 5:15 p.m. Thursday, August 26, 2010, at Genesis Good Samaritan Hospital. He was born July 1, 1922, in Cincinnati, Ohio, a son of the late Marguerite Garrett Waltermire Tanner. He was the owner & operator of the Co-Operative Casket Company for 42 years, was a member of the Immanuel United Church of Christ and was a United States Army World War II Veteran. His favorite past times were family, friends, genealogy, photography, boating and camping. Surviving are his wife of 63 years, Doris McConnell Waltermire, whom he married June 17, 1947, of the home; a daughter, Susie Waltermire of Zanesville; two sons, Denny Waltermire of Grove City, Ohio and Bruce (Terry Jo) Waltermire of Walton, Kentucky; six granddaughters, Jodi (Derek) Dozer, April (Doug) Stemen, Brandy McElhaney, Karen Waltermire, Brittney Waltermire and Alisha Waltermire; seven great grandchildren, Drake, Mason and Rileigh Dozer, Mikaela and Colton Stemen and Jakob and Kalob McElhaney; a brother, William "Wild Bill" Waltermire of Dayton, WA.; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his mother, he was preceded in death by his step father, John Tanner. Friends may call 5-8 p.m. Saturday, August 28, 2010 at the Bolin-Dierkes Funeral Home, 1271 Blue Ave., Zanesville. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Sunday, August 29, 2010 at the funeral home with Pastor Mitch Reed officiating. Burial will follow at Duncan Falls Cemetery.
