James R. Whissel

James R. Whissel, 80, of Sonora, Ohio, died at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, April 10, 2010 at his residence. He was born March 20, 1930, in Zanesville, the son of the late Carl and Edith Jones Whissel. Jim was a retired construction worker and a member of the Sonora United Methodist Church. He was a United States Army Korean Veteran, a member of the VFW George Selsam Post #1058 and the American Legion Post #29. Surviving are his wife, Carol Morgan Whissel, whom he married November 17, 1951 of the home; three daughters, Carolyn (Thomas) McVicker and Linda (Larry) Taylor, both of Zanesville and Jamie (Ron) Cole of Guam; two sisters, Eileen Moffo of Reynoldsburg, Ohio and Patricia Brock of Zanesville; a brother, Fred (Barbara) Whissel of Jackson, WY.; three grandchildren, Jason, Troy and Aaron Taylor and three great grandchildren, Eli Taylor-Wise, Alexa and Makenzie Taylor. Friends may call 2 to 4 & 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, April 14, 2010 at the Bolin-Dierkes Funeral Home,1271 Blue Ave., Zanesville. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, April 15, 2010 at the funeral home with Rev Jim Sands officiating. Burial will follow at St Paul Cemetery near Sonora. VFW George Selsam Post 1058 will hold military services at the gravesite.
