JoAnne Sowers, 92, of Zanesville, died at 2:40 A.M. on Sunday, January 26, 2025 at Altercare of Zanesville. She was born April 21, 1932, in Zanesville, a daughter of the late Melvin R. and Freda Violet (Wright) Bowers. She was a lifetime member of the Norval Park Church of Christ and was a 6th grade teacher at Crooksville Local Schools for 30 years. JoAnne enjoyed reading, crossword puzzles, Sudoku puzzles, pulling weeds while working in her gardens and video games, especially on the first ever Nintendo.
She is survived by two daughters, Susan R. (Dr. Mike) Whitaker and Sharon Flynn; seven grandchildren; and thirteen great grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, Jo Anne is preceded in death by her husband, Bernard Sowers, who died in 2006; and a brother, Clarence Bowers; two sisters, Maxine Barr and Wanda Longstreth; son in law, Christopher Flynn; a brother and sister in law, Benny (Norma) Sowers; and a sister and brother in law Thelma (Dick) White.
Graveside Services will be held at 1:00 P.M. on Sunday, February 2, 2025 at Zanesville Memorial Park Cemetery, 1475 Military Road, Zanesville, with Jim Clegg officiating, where JoAnne will be laid to rest beside her beloved husband, Bernard.
A cremation will take place under the direction of BOLIN-DIERKES FUNERAL HOME & CREMATORY, 1271 BLUE AVENUE, ZANESVILLE.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made in JoAnne’s name to the Muskingum County K-9 Adoption Center, 1854 East Pike Zanesville, Ohio 43701.
