Joe J. Polk

Joe J. Polk, 94, of Zanesville, died at 1:25 A.M. Sunday, January 6, 2013 at Cedar Hill Care Center, Zanesville. He was born September 4, 1918 in Zanesville, a son of the late Charles and Helen Olenchuk Polk. Joe retired from Brockway Glass after 49 years of service. He was a proud U.S.Navy Veteran serving in World War Two in the Armed Guard Division. He was an avid golfer and enjoyed woodworking. He was a lifetime member of the VFW George Selsam Post 1058. Surviving are two sons; Joseph C.( Norma) Polk of Zanesville, and Jim J. (Diana) Polk also of Zanesville, six grandchildren, Noelle , Justin, Nicole, Natasha, James, and Jacala; eleven great grandchildren, Brooke, Michael, Harley, Zachary, Zane, Zoe, Justin, Makenna, Lakota, Anthony and Giada; and one great great grandson, Sage; a brother, Fred (Linda) Polk of Zanesville; two special friends, Buzz Benson and Russell Durant both of Zanesville. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Norma M. Underhill Polk; a daughter, Jenny L. Polk; a great granddaughter, Josie Roush; two brothers, Carl and John Polk; three sisters, Mary Smith, Roseann Cochran and Carolyn Polk. Friends and family may call from 5-8 P.M. on Tuesday, January 8, 2013 at Bolin-Dierkes Funeral Home, 1271 Blue Avenue, Zanesville where funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M. Wednesday, January 9, 2013 at the funeral home with Rev. Dawn Remster officiating. Burial will follow at Williams Cemetery, Zanesville with full military honors being provided by the United States Navy in conjunction with the VFW George Selsam Post 1058.
