John C. Elliott Jr., 72, of Philo, died at 2:30 P.M. on Thursday, August 8, 2013, at his home after battling a long illness. He was born September 5, 1940, in Zanesville, a son of the late John C. Sr. and Edna Mae Russi Elliott. He was a 1958 graduate of Philo High School, a Veteran of the United States Marine Corps, retired as a Foreman from Ohio Ferro Alloy, and retired from Nickels Bakery, and was a member of Philo United Methodist Church. Before his declining health, John was very active. He was interested in anything involving his two daughters, church, and athletics. He was a member of the Ohio Big Bucks Club, Retired Teamsters Union #651, coached his church's softball team, was a past Philo United Methodist Church Board Member, a volunteer and certified scuba diver for the Harrison Township Fire Department, and was an avid golfer. John was a family man who loved spending time with his wife, children, and grandchildren and he enjoyed the outdoors, roses, and hummingbirds. Surviving are his loving wife of 51 years Pamela Parry Murray Elliott, whom he married February 14, 1962, at the Westerville United Methodist Church; two daughters Tamara Galligher of Zanesville and Natalie (Ronald) Collins of Newark; three grandchildren, Paige Elaine Galligher, Courtney Lane Galligher, and William Alexander Collins; a sister Patricia (Jerry) Henderson of Duncan Falls; and many cousins, nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son-in-law Timothy Galligher; special Godparents Clarence and Hazel Russi; paternal grandparents Ben and Jessie Winchell Elliott; and maternal grandparents Clarence and Helen Russi. No calling hours will be observed and a dignified cremation has taken place. Memorial service will be held at 2:00p.m. on Satuday, August 24, 2013, with calling one hour prior, at Bolin-Dierkes Funeral Home and Crematory, 1271 Blue Avenue, Zanesville with Pastor Terry Priest officiating.
