John Charles Fortner, 48, of Zanesville, passed away at Grant Medical Center in Columbus, OH on Friday, September 17th from injuries caused by an automobile accident. John has always been passionate about saving lives and because of his organ donation several people received the gift of life. He was born to John Fortner and Donna Ackerman, May 19th, 1973, in Zanesville, Ohio where he has lived all of his life. John met his high school sweetheart Sheena Ivoska in 1991 when their love story began. They married in September 1996, and recently celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary. Together they raised two children: Jarett (Alyssa) Fortner and Shelby Fortner and are excited to become grandparents in 2022.
John worked as a dispatcher for the Licking County Sheriff’s Office for the past 14 years. He graduated from West Muskingum High School in 1992 and then became a volunteer firefighter with Falls Township Fire Department. John was a dedicated member of North Terrace Church of Christ where he served with all of his heart. John was an amazing drummer and played on the worship team at his church, along with different bands over the years. He was the life of the party, always cracking jokes and made sure that everyone had a good time.
Also known as Santa John, he brought joy to many around the holiday season. He had a special way of keeping Christmas magic alive by putting a smile on the faces of young and old. With his authentic look and love for the holiday, he made everyone a believer.
John is survived by his wife, children and two sisters and one brother, Lanette (Tony) Potts, Melissa (Heath) Romine, and Scott (Danielle) Ackerman. His parents, John (Roger Paisley) Fortner and Donna (Dale) Ackerman.
Calling hours for John will be held at North Terrace Church of Christ, 1420 Brandywine Blvd, Zanesville from 2-8 P.M. Wednesday, September 22, 2021 where funeral services will be held at 1:00 P.M. Thursday, September 23, 2021 with Mr. Chris Steele officiating. He will be laid to rest at Zanesville Memorial Park Cemetery, Zanesville.
