John E. "Jack" Granger, 83, of Zanesville, passed away after a period of declining health at 8:25 p.m. Monday, February 16, 2009 at Genesis Good Samaritan hospital. He was born January 7, 1926, in Zanesville, the son of the late Leon Malcolm and Florence R. Coyle Granger. He was a lifelong member of Central Presbyterian Church and was a member of the Muskingum County Farm Bureau, Pleasant Grove Grange and the American Angus Association. He was a farmer and served his country as a US Navy World War II veteran. Surviving are his wife of 57 years, Julia L. Lee Granger, whom he married September 16, 1951, of the home; two nephews, Richard (Angela) Smith of Orrville and Ronald (Terri) Smith of Dover; three great nephews, Joshua, Jason and Hunter Smith; a great niece, Nicole Smith; several cousins; and a sister-in-law, Alice (Duane) Smith of Newcomerstown. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, James Granger; and a sister-in-law, Peggy Granger. Friends may call 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday, February 19, 2009 at the Bolin-Dierkes Funeral Home, 1271 Blue Ave., Zanesville and one hour prior to services. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Friday, February 20, 2009 at the funeral home with the Rev. Ray C. Morrison Jr. officiating. Burial will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery.
