John E. Granger

January 7, 1926 — February 16, 2009

John E. "Jack" Granger, 83, of Zanesville, passed away after a period of declining health at 8:25 p.m. Monday, February 16, 2009 at Genesis Good Samaritan hospital. He was born January 7, 1926, in Zanesville, the son of the late Leon Malcolm and Florence R. Coyle Granger. He was a lifelong member of Central Presbyterian Church and was a member of the Muskingum County Farm Bureau, Pleasant Grove Grange and the American Angus Association. He was a farmer and served his country as a US Navy World War II veteran. Surviving are his wife of 57 years, Julia L. Lee Granger, whom he married September 16, 1951, of the home; two nephews, Richard (Angela) Smith of Orrville and Ronald (Terri) Smith of Dover; three great nephews, Joshua, Jason and Hunter Smith; a great niece, Nicole Smith; several cousins; and a sister-in-law, Alice (Duane) Smith of Newcomerstown. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, James Granger; and a sister-in-law, Peggy Granger. Friends may call 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday, February 19, 2009 at the Bolin-Dierkes Funeral Home, 1271 Blue Ave., Zanesville and one hour prior to services. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Friday, February 20, 2009 at the funeral home with the Rev. Ray C. Morrison Jr. officiating. Burial will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Central Presbyterian Church, 40 N 6th St., Zanesville, Ohio, 43701.
