John Lewis Hammer, 68, died at 2:56 P.M. on Saturday, December 23, 2017 surrounded by his loving family. He was born August 14, 1949 in Zanesville, a son of Bonadine Reed Hammer and the late Robert Hammer. John was a correctional officer at the Southeastern Ohio Correctional Institution, Lancaster for 30 years. He was a member of the Blue Knights and the Harley Association. John was an avid poker player, enjoyed hunting and fishing and riding his Harley. Surviving are his loving wife of 35 years, Patricia A. Beall Hammer, two daughters, Shala (Scott) Zemba and Tiffany (Steven) Matthews; four sons, Robert (Nancy) Appleman, Kent Hammer, William (Annette) Lyons Jr. and Jonathan Tivner; ten grandchildren; one great grandson; a brother, Robert Hammer; a sister, Cheryl (Matt) Mumford; a special brother-in-law, Johnny Clyde Beall Sr.; and many other relatives and friends. In addition to his father, he is preceded in death by a granddaughter, Sherrill Hammer. Friends and family may call from 4-8 P.M. on Tuesday, December 26, 2017 at BOLIN-DIERKES FUNERAL HOME & CREMATORY, 1271 BLUE AVENUE, ZANESVILLE where the funeral service will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Wednesday, December 27, 2017 with Bishop Terry Rowland officiating.
