John B. "Jack" Hartnett, 80, of Zanesville, died at 7:37 A.M. on Saturday, July 11, 2015, at Genesis Hospice-Morrison House after suffering with a brain tumor. He was born September 6, 1934, in Johnstown, PA, a son of the late Edward and Mary Ruth Hartnett. Jack began his career in the oil and gas industry on July 1, 1959 when he went to work for Haliburton Company in Indiana, Pennsylvania. He held just about every position that Halliburton offered from Dispatcher to Equipment Operator to Fieldman. He spent two and a half years in Indiana, Pennsylvania, one and a half years in Wooster, Ohio and 13 years in Zanesville, Ohio-in all, 17 years of invaluable experience. In July 1976, Jack went to work for the National Gas & Oil Corporation in Newark, Ohio. At National, he was first in charge of the Land Department and Gas Purchase and Sales. Later he was named Vice President of the production company. His final four and a half years with National were served as Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of the Company. Jack served as a member of the Ohio Oil and Gas Association's Board of Trustees from 1987 through 1996. He also was actively involved on several OOGA committees. He was inducted into the Ohio Oil and Gas Hall of Fame October 18, 2002. Surviving are his wife of 62 years and high school sweetheart, Betty Moorhead, whom he married June 20, 1953; a son John Michael of Nashport; daughter Kelly Hartnett of Allentown; his faithful black lab "Boo"; brothers Michael (Joan) Hartnett and Charles (Cheryl) Hartnett; lots of friends; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister Mary Ruth Thull; and a brother Edward Hartnett. Friends and family may call from 4:00-7:00 P.M. on Wednesday, July 15, 2015, at the BOLIN-DIERKES FUNERAL HOME, 1271 BLUE AVENUE, ZANESVILLE, where funeral services will be held at 1:00 P.M. on Thursday, July 16, 2015, with Father Peter Fegan O.P. as celebrant. He will be laid to rest at Mt. Olive Cemetery, Zanesville. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Thomas Aquinas Church: 144 N 5th Street, Zanesville, Ohio 43701.
