John Lichwarcik

February 9, 1916 — February 23, 2005

John "Lich" Lichwarcik,89, of Zanesville, Ohio, passed away February 23, 2005 at 9:30 A.M. Wednesday. John died as he lived. After enjoying a day skiing the slopes on Tuesday, he passed away while walking his best friend, Rocco (a black lab) at Riverside Park. He was a retired lab technician for Don Hager Ceramic Material. Mr. Lichwarcik was a member of the St. Thomas Catholic Church and a member of the Knights of Columbus # 505, (fourth degree) and a member of the Newark Ski Club. He was an Army Veteran of WW II, receiving the American Theater Ribbon, the Good Conduct Medal, the World War II Victory Medal, the European African Middle Eastern Theater Ribbon with one Bronze Service Star. He was also a member of the American Legion Post 29. Mr. Lichwarcik was born February 9, 1916 in Caldwell, Ohio, the son of the late Steve and Suzie Hudik Lichwarcik. Surviving are three sisters, Susie Arnold of Annaheim, CA., and Katie Teel and Margaret (John) Bombik both of Cleveland; several nieces and nephews; great nieces and nephews, including local niece Mona Lee Joseph of Newark and nephew William D. (Becky) Joseph of Zanesville. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by three sisters; Anna Schultz, Mary Stetzy, and Elizabeth Joseph, and one brother Joseph Lichwarcik. Friends may call 4:00 to 8:00 P.M. Friday, February 25, 2005 at the Bolin-Dierkes Funeral Home, 1271 Blue Ave., Zanesville, Ohio. A Mass of the Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 A.M. Saturday, February, 26, 2005 at the St. Thomas Catholic Church, North Fifth St., Zanesville, with the Father Thomas Di Fede as celebrant. Burial will follow at Zanesville Memorial Park where VFW George Selsam Post 1058 will hold military services at the gravesite. A Christian Vigil Service will be held at 4:00 P.M. Friday at the funeral home.
