John F. McAllister, 74, of Zanesville, died Sunday afternoon, December 28, 2008 at Genesis Good Samaritan emergency room. He was born July 21, 1934, in Zanesville, a son to the late Herman "Mac" and Virginia "Jinny" Campbell McAllister. John graduated from Lash High School Class of 1952 and then from the College of Dentistry, School of Dental Technology at The Ohio State University. He was employed in the summers at Armco Steel while attending college. Upon graduation, he worked for Pace Dental Lab and later owned McAllister Dental Lab and was co-owner of the Military Beer Dock. He later retired after 30 years as a private technician for Dr. R.W. Cater DDS. John loved to travel, fish, hunt but his life was his family. He was an active member of 64 years at Grace United Methodist Church, where he was a board member and a member of the Parsimar Class. John was also a charter member of the West Muskingum Lions Club and of the Zane Grey Ole Auto Club. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Judy Marty McAllister, whom he married November 7, 1955, of the home; a son, John E. (Holly) McAllister of Dresden; a daughter, Julie K. McAllister of Zanesville; 5 grandchildren, Jon, Don, Anna, David and Tailer; two brothers-in-law, Dick (Pam) Marty of Alabaster, Alabama and Pete Marty of Zanesville. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Carey Anne McAllister. Friends may call 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, December 31, 2008 at the Bolin-Dierkes Funeral Home, 1271 Blue Ave., Zanesville and one hour prior to services at the church. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, January 2, 2009 at the Grace United Methodist Church, 516 Shinnick Street, Zanesville with Rev. Steve McGuire officiating. Burial will follow at Zanesville Memorial Park Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in John's name may be made to Grace United Methodist Church, 516 Shinnick Street, Zanesville, Ohio, 43701.
