John G. "Gerald" Melvin, 76, of Adamsville and St. Petersburg, Florida died Monday, April 12, 2005 at Kindred Hospital, St. Petersburg, Florida. He was born May 24, 1928 at Zanesville, Ohio a son of the late Ed Melvin and Dorotha Whitehouse Fisher. John retired from Zanesville Steel Treating Plant as a Furnace Operator. He was a member of Fair Oaks Baptist Church and a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean Conflict. Surviving are his wife, Pauline Koontz Wilson Melvin, whom he married July 13, 2000, two step-sons, Rodger Wilson of Adamsville and Gary Wilson of Dresden; a sister, Clara Brown of Duncan Falls and several nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by four brothers; Charles Fisher, Edward Fisher, Donald Melvin and Lloyd Melvin and a sister, Daynee Ball. The family will receive friends from 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. Thursday, April 14, 2005 at Bolin-Dierkes Funeral Home, 1271 Blue Avenue, Zanesville. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday at the funeral home with Rev. Robert Buchanan officiating. Burial will follow at Greenwood Cemetery.
