John “Red Dog” Wilson, 86, of Zanesville, died at 4:30 P.M. Tuesday, January 18, 2022 at Genesis Hospital emergency room, Zanesville. He was born April 18, 1935, in Rix Mills, a son of the late Henry S. Wilson and Doris Wilson Alwood. He learned his trade as a machinist from his uncles while working at Zanesville Tool & Grinding. John worked at Owens Corning as a machinist before traveling from California and Florida for work, then returning to Owens Corning to then retire from there as a an engineering planner. Red Dog was an avid sports fan, especially for The Ohio State Buckeyes and Cincinnati Bengals because of his favorite player, Joe Burrow. Above all, he loved his family and always was interested in everyone’s activities.
Surviving are his wife of forty two years Martha Lumb Wilson, whom he married April 18, 1981, two step-sons, Gordon (Joyce) Lynn and Troy (Leandra) Wilson; seven grandchildren, Tyler Lynn, Abby Lynn, Caitlin Lynn, Isabelle Lynn, Seth Wilson, Ryland Wilson and Lauren Wilson; twin sisters, Martha (Bob) Campbell and Mary Wilson and many nieces and nephews.
Friends and family may call from 4-6 P.M. Sunday, January 23, 2022 at BOLIN-DIERKES FUNERALHOME, 1271 BLUE AVENUE, ZANESVILLE, where services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Monday, January 24, 2022 with Mr. William Meaige officiating. Burial will follow at Mattingly Settlement Cemetery, Nashport.
