Joseph Richard Walker

Joseph Richard Walker, 81, of Zanesville, died at 10:45 P.M. on Wednesday, October 31, 2012, at Genesis Hospice-Morrison House. He was born March 15, 1931, in Morgan County, a son of the late Joseph and Priscilla Sims Walker. He retired from AEP after 42 years of service as an Equipment Manager at Columbia Center. He was a veteran of the United States Marines. Joseph was also a member of Central Trinity United Methodist Church, the Grand Lodge of Free & Accepted Masons of Ohio, and a Timber Run Grange member. His hobby and passion was woodworking. Surviving are his wife, Virginia Taylor Scanlan Walker; two sons, Bob (Kay) Walker of Zanesville and Rich (Suzanne) Walker of Arizona City, AZ; a step-son Tim Scanlan of Zanesville; a step-daughter Judy Scanlan of Zanesville; four grandchildren, Matt Walker, Katherine (Kevin) Harmon, Renee Walker, and Joshua (Krystel) Walker; a step-grandchild Tiffany Scanlan; six great grandchildren; four brothers, Jim Walker, Don (Kathryn) Walker, John (Phyllis Ann) Walker, and Phil (Faye) Walker; four sisters, Mary (Jim) McConnell, Alice (Harold) Moran, Ruth (Don) Riddle, and Joyce (Arnie) Englebert; as well as many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Marjorie Carson Walker; and a brother Bill Walker. Friends and family may call from 2:00-4:00 P.M. and 6:00-8:00 P.M. on Friday, November 2, 2012, at the Bolin-Dierkes Funeral Home, 1271 Blue Avenue, Zanesville, where funeral services will be held at 1:00 P.M. on Saturday, November 3, 2012 with his brother, Phillip Walker officiating. He will be laid to rest at Zanesville Memorial Park Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Salvation Army: 515 Putnam Avenue, Zanesville, Ohio 43701.
