Julie Annette Buchanan Galloway

July 8, 1960 — May 24, 2021

Nashport

Julie Buchanan Galloway lost her hard fought battle with lung cancer on Monday, May 24, 2021 at the Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center, Columbus. She was born July 8, 1960 to Charles Frederick and Vera (Bednarczuk) Buchanan. She was a 1978 graduate of John Glenn High School. In 1980 at the age of nineteen, she moved and started what would be a thirty-nine year career at the Ohio Bell Company. She started as an operator and retired in the engineering department of AT&T. Her girls were always her life and she raised them in Hilliard where she was their Girl Scout Leader, volunteered at their school, attended their dance classes, and soft ball and soccer games. In recent years she spent all possible time playing, baking, and going on adventures with her granddaughter, Maya.

She leaves to mourn her passing, her two daughters, Alexa Kathryn (Bobbie Jo) Galloway and Emily Noel Galloway; the joy of her life and buddy, her granddaughter Maya Kathryn Gombach; her sisters, Linda Grizzard, Beverly (Jim Downing) Sawyer, and Marsha (Carl) Phelps; her many Bednardzuk cousins; nieces and nephews, Chris (Kirstin) Pickenpaugh, Tony (Gaby) Rizzo, Angela Phelps, Pat (Angie) Pickenpaugh, Matthew (Kim) Phelps, Kari Simpson, Samantha (Wes) Tucker, and all of their children; but most important, she leaves her lifelong friend, partner, and love of her life, Kevin Van Horn.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her grandparents, Ross and May Buchanan and Walter and Anastazia Bednardzuk; and many aunts, uncles, and cousins.

The family would like to thank Kevin for all the love, support, and care he gave to Julie except for the one time in Junior High when he and Julie were paired as science partners. He was so bossy that Julie asked her mom to talk to the teacher so she didn’t have to work with him. When his mother asked him if he was being bossy with her, he thought about it, and said “well yes!” She advised him to be nicer. He followed her advice and they remained friends, and even closer friends later in life!
