Karen Havens, 67, of Zanesville, died at 10:10 a.m. on Saturday, July 27, 2013 at Genesis Hospice-Morrison House. She was born June 2, 1946 in Zanesville a daughter of Marilyn O'Neil Shelly and the late Kenneth Shelly. Karen retired from Zanesville City Schools after 35 years of service, where she taught at Sheridan, Pioneer and McKinley. She was a member of Immanuel United Church of Christ, where she married her husband Gary in 1968. Karen enjoyed playing euchre every week with seven of her classmates from Zanesville High School class of 1964. She is survived by her loving husband of 44 years, John Gary (Omar) Havens of the home; her mother, Marilyn Shelly of Zanesville; two daughters, Jan (Jerry) Wagner of Rock Island, Ill and Shelly Willey of Zanesville; a son, Jay (Bertha) Havens of Cooper City, Fld.; a brother, Rick (Janet) Shelly of Zanesville; six grandchildren, Nicole Willey, Melissa Havens, Danielle Havens, John Vinsel, Kelly Code and Justin Embrey; three great grandchildren, Special niece, Allison (J.R.) Pruden; a special friend, Melissa Morgan and her K9 companion, Candy Havens. A memorial service will be held at 1:00 P.M. on Saturday, August 31, 2013, at Immanuel United Church of Christ, 105 S 7th Street, Zanesville, Ohio 43701.
