Katherine Gard, 78, of Gallipolis, died at 6:15 p.m. Thursday, January 22, 2009 at The Ohio State University Medical Center. She was born September 19, 1930, in Zanesville, a daughter of the late Walter and Anastazia Berykela Bednarczuk. She was a retired school teacher and was a former owner and operator of Places To Go Travel Agency. She was a member of St. Nicholas Catholic Church and the Cliffside Golf Club in Gallipolis. She was also a recreational pilot. Surviving are two daughters, Mary Katherine McPherson of Patriot, OH.; Melinda G. Gard of Athens, OH.; two sons, Mark C. Gard of Delaware, OH. and Michael T. (Nancy) Gard of Pomeroy, OH.; three sisters, Annie Campo of Staten Island, NY, Martha (Tom) Lewis of Punta Gorda, FL. and Barbara (Bob) Wagner of Zanesville; a brother, Robert Bednarczuk of Lebanon, OH.; 9 grandchildren; 4 great grandchildren; and 3 step grandchildren; In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by four sisters, Olga Jewett, Lana Huneck, Mary Czarniecki and Vera Buchanan; and three brothers, Bohdan, Taras and Boris Bednarczuk. Friends may call 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. Sunday, January 25, 2009 at the Bolin-Dierkes Funeral Home, 1271 Blue Ave., Zanesville. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Monday, January 26, 2009 at the St. Nicholas Catholic Church, 925 Main St., Zanesville with Father Leo Connolly as celebrant. Burial will follow at Mt. Olive Cemetery.
