Kathryn Sara "Boppy" Johnson, 87, of Zanesville, passed away on Tuesday, June 3, 2008 at Genesis Bethesda Hospital Skilled Nursing after an extended illness. Born April 13, 1921, in Zanesville, Ohio, she was the daughter of the late Arthur Carl and Lulu Mae Saunders Brauning. She was a lifelong member of Immanuel United Church of Christ where she was a member of the choir, served on the church board, several commissions, was a member of the Women's Guild and Rebekah Circle. She was an avid Cincinnati Reds fan and attended several games. She volunteered at Christ's Table for several years and supported many charities. She belonged to several faith based organizations including Retreat Ministry, Church Women United and was a founding member of The Fellowship of Christ's Community at Central Presbyterian Church. Peace work was a favorite activity where she was a founding member of the Muskingum Area Peacemakers and participated in numerous mission trips including trips to Nicaragua and Cuba. She is survived by two daughters, Janet (Sam) Plummer of Zanesville and Karen (George) Hardie of Carroll, Ohio; three grandchildren, Chad Mills of Zanesville, Sara (Hardie) Sankovich of Toledo, Ohio and Tyler Hardie of Carroll, Ohio; three sisters, Betty Still of Zanesville, Janet (E.J.) Goodman of Maumelle, Arkansas and Nancy (Charles) Coble of Brownsville; a brother, Charles (Wilma) Brauning of Nashport; a sister-in-law, Helen Brauning of Newark; a step-son, Mike Johnson of Shadyside, Ohio; several beloved nieces and nephews and special friends, John & Pat Hardie of Phoenix, Arizona and Rev. Bill & Dottie Briggs and so many more. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph Johnson and two brothers, Carl and William Brauning. Friends may call from 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. Friday, June 6, 2008 at the Bolin-Dierkes Funeral Home, 1271 Blue Ave., Zanesville and one hour prior to services at the church. A memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, June 7, 2008 at the Immanuel United Church of Christ, 105 South 7th St., Zanesville with the Rev. Bill Briggs, Dottie Briggs and Mary Perone officiating. Burial will follow at Greenwood Cemetery.
