Kenneth R. Houston, 72, of Zanesville, died at 7:05 A.M. on Monday, February 6, 2023, at Genesis Hospice-Morrison House, Zanesville. He was born January 5, 1951, in Zanesville, a son of the late George and Eva Wanita (Ferrell) Houston. He retired from the Putnam Transfer after 35 years of service and came back to work in the payroll department at Genesis Hospital. He served honorably for 33 years of active and reserve duty in the United States Army serving in both Vietnam and Desert Storm. Kenneth was an active member of the VFW and Muskingum Valley Garden Society, where he was a Master Gardner. Kenneth was always active and of service, he also volunteered in the Zanesville Planning Commission and raised money for Hospice through performing with the Zaney Follies and for the Wounded Warrior Project through Dancing with the Diva’s. He was a proud veteran, he organized many reunions for his 342nd Military Police Unit (Desert Storm).
He is survived by a son, David (Colleen) Houston; three grandchildren, Cecily, Rosily, and David Jr.; three brothers, William (Linda) Houston, Terry Houston, Jeff (Tina) Houston; three sisters, Sue Lohman, Mona Hawkins, and Marsha (Allen) Griffin and the mother of his child and friend, Sandy Raines.
In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by two brothers, George Jr. and Larry E. Houston; and two brothers-in-law, Jake Hawkins and Max Lohman.
Friends and family may call from 4:00 - 7:00 P.M. on Thursday, February 16, 2023, at the BOLIN-DIERKES FUNERAL HOME AND CREMATORY, 1271 BLUE AVENUE, ZANESVILLE where funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Friday, February 17, 2023, with Chaplin Tim Patton officiating. He will be laid to rest at Zanesville Memorial Park Cemetery, Zanesville with full Military honors accorded to him by the United States Army in conjunction with the VFW George Selsam Post 1058. There will be a Celebration of Life service following the graveside at the VFW, 1314 Putnam Avenue, Zanesville.
