Kenneth Dean Kearsh, 68, of Zanesville, passed away unexpectedly on February 8, 2015, at his home. He was born Friday the 13th of September, 1946, in Kew Gardens, New York, a son of the late Dean and Maxine Kearsh. He graduated from Sewanhaka High School, Floral Park, NY, in 1964. He graduated from Muskingum College, New Concord, Ohio, in 1968, and was a member of Kappa Sigma Fraternity. He returned to New York where he taught at North Babylon High School on Long Island. He then partnered with a friend in a successful franchise, building and selling Shoreline Boat Trailers. He sold his share and returned to Zanesville, Ohio, where he lived for the next 45 years and raised his family. He worked for Mutual Federal Savings and Loan as Department Head and Branch Manager in Zanesville, and had a brief stay in Grand Junction, Colorado, with Mutual Savings as Department Head. He returned to Zanesville and retired from Merrill Lynch as a Financial Advisor after 26 years. He served many years on the board of the Big Brothers Big Sisters of Zanesville, as Treasurer, Vice President, President, and Past President. During that time, he mentored 4 Little Brothers. He served on the Animal Shelter Society's board for many years, overseeing the shelter expansion and two terms as its President, Treasurer, and Past President on the board. He was an Ohio High School Football Official for 45 years. He also served as Secretary for Muskingum Valley Officials Association and a United Way member of the Zane Grey Society (Desert Gold) for 15 years. Surviving are his sons, Dean Johnson of Columbus, OH, and Eric Kenneth of Wheeling, WV; his sister and brother-in-law Helen (Eric) Harris of Fort Walton Beach, FL; a nephew Derick Kearsh of Archibald, PA; and numerous other family members and close friends. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a younger brother and sister-in-law Greg (Patricia) Kearsh. He will be cremated and a Memorial Gathering will be held from 4:00-7:00 P.M. on Friday, February 13, 2015, at the BOLIN-DIERKES FUNERAL HOME & CREMATORY, 1271 BLUE AVENUE, ZANESVILLE. Following will be a reception at the Merrill Lynch Building, 905 Zane Street, Zanesville, from 7:00-9:00 P.M. In lieu of flowers, per Ken's request, the family asks that memorial contributions in his name be made to Big Brothers-Big Sisters of Zanesville: 4 North 7th Street, Zanesville, Ohio 43701; or to the Animal Shelter Society: 1430 Newark Road, Zanesville, Ohio 43701.
