Laverna M (Sowards) Brock

Laverna M. Brock, 77, of Zanesville, died at 3:00 a.m. Friday, January 21, 2011 at the Adams Lane Care Center. She was born May 31, 1933, in Adamsville, a daughter of the late Frank and Etta Humphrey Sowards. She retired as an inspector for Brockway Glass. She was a member of the Immanuel United Church of Christ. Surviving are three sons, Dennis (Linda) Allen of Marion, OH, Steven F. (Lisa) Allen of Cambridge, OH and Gary D. Allen of Zanesville; two daughters, Marta Ferguson and Mary Hopper, both of Zanesville; a step daughter, Billie (Donald) Peters of Florida; a brother, Ervin Sowards of Zanesville; and a sister, Beatrice VanDyne of Zanesville; 15 grandchildren, Derek, Jessica, Katie, Bonnie, Stephanie, Kurtis, Jennifer, Jeremy, Erica, Dusty, Jason, Chad, Christopher, Karen and Stephanie; and 21 great grandchildren. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Roy D. Allen; her second husband, William E. Brock; a daughter, Marilyn Schilling; and a sister, Lela Griffin. Friends and family may call from 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. Sunday, January 23, 2011 at the Bolin-Dierkes Funeral Home, 1271 Blue Ave., Zanesville and one hour prior to services at the church. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Monday, January 24, 2011 at the Immanuel United Church of Christ, 105 S 7th St., Zanesville with Pastor Mitch Reed officiating.
