Lawrence E. Banfield

Lawrence E. "Larry" Banfield, 73, of Blacklick, formerly of Zanesville, died at 7:40 p.m. Monday, March 30, 2009 at Mount Carmel East Hospital in Columbus. He was born December 6, 1935, in Philo, a son of the late Lawrence E. and Bertha Harry Banfield. He worked for 18 years as a supervisor for the Pepsi Cola Co. and retired after 10 years of service as a supervisor for IGA. He was a member of Coburn United Methodist Church, where he was Sunday School Secretary and Treasurer for over 40 years, was an usher, taught the V.E.P. Sunday School Class, was a member of the United Methodist Men and the Tops #496 Club. Larry was an active member of the Lions Club International, where he served in many capacities such as the State and District Chairman of the LCIF. His proudest accomplishments were being the Melvin Jones recipient of the Lions Club and the Dick Bryan Fellowship award. He was a US Navy Veteran. Surviving are his wife of 52 years, Bonnie J. Bonifield Banfield, whom he married May 5, 1956, of the home; two sons, Mark Allen Banfield of Cincinnati and Kevin Lee (Jeanie) Banfield of Roseville; two daughters, Cathy Jo Banfield and Lori Ann Banfield -Wisecarver, both of Columbus; 7 grandchildren, Sabrina, John, April, Lauren, Andrew, Megan and Keely; 4 great grandchildren, John Jr., Sara, Edon and Kasey; and a great granddaughter, Chloe, due in April; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Jerry Lee Banfield and three sisters, Evelyn Smith, Marie Eddleblute and Margaret Gladwell. Friends may call 6-8 p.m. Thursday, April 2, 2009 at the Bolin-Dierkes Funeral Home, 1271 Blue Ave., Zanesville and one hour prior to services at the church. The Lions Club will hold services at 8:00 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday, April 3, 2009 at Coburn United Methodist Church, 3618 Maple Ave., Zanesville with Rev. Doris Flynn officiating. Burial will follow at Zanesville Memorial Park Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Lions Club International Foundation, Dept. 4547, Carol Stream, IL., 60122-4547 or to Pilot Dogs Inc., 625 W Town St., Columbus, Ohio, 43215.
