Lawrence D. “Chinky” Burkhart, 82, of Zanesville, died Saturday, June 19, 2021 at Altercare of Zanesville . He was born August 6, 1938 in Zanesville, a son of the late Sylvester “Pop” and Julia Dietenbeck Burkhart. He retired from Essex Wire after over 35 years of service and was a member of St. Thomas Catholic Church. Chinky was a collector of Arrow Heads, knives and guns. He enjoyed making a good trade.
Surviving are his loving wife of over 50 years, Laurel Stewart Burkhart; daughter, Michele (Doug) Merriam and a son, David (Julie) Burkhart; two grandchildren, Tyler and Kaelin Burkhart; brother, Jim (Ann) Burkhart and two sisters, Rose (Bill) Parry and Mary (Jim) McKee.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a grandson, Brandon Merriam; three brothers, Bernard, Tom and John Burkhart and a sister, Eleanor Flack.
A Memorial Mass will be held at 10:30 A.M. Friday, June 25, 2021 at St. Nicholas Catholic Church, 925 Main Street, Zanesville with Fr. JCP Sullivan as celebrant. Inurnment will follow at Mt. Olive Cemetery, Zanesville.
