Leona Mae Bowers Harris, 89, formerly of Asbury Chapel Road and Maple Avenue High Rise, died at 6:12 p.m. Sunday, October 12, 2008 at Adams Lane Care Center, where her two sisters were also patients. She was born July 31, 1919, a daughter of the late William Henry and May Delia Melvin Bowers and was the last surviving member of her immediate family of Busserman Lane. She attended Locust Grove grade school and graduated from Lash High School. She was a volunteer at Maple Avenue High Rise and enjoyed keeping in touch with family and her many friends, playing cards, reading, music and crossword puzzles and she was a wonderful cook. She was cared for by Southeastern Ohio Hospice. Surviving are two daughters, Patricia (Larry) Cullins and Delia (Jerry) Mickelson; 9 grandchildren; 4 great grandchildren and a daughter-in-law, Kay Abbott. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph William Harris, who died Dec. 24, 1984; a son, John Abbott, who died April 18, 2008; a daughter, Rowena Seevers; sisters, Lucille Girton and Mary Mills; brothers, Orville, John, Clarence and William Bowers and a daughter-in-law, Donna Abbott. No calling hours will be observed. A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, October 16, 2008 at Wesley Chapel Cemetery, near White Cottage with Pastor Marc Caton officiating.
