Lewis M Carr Jr.

Lewis M. Carr Jr., 83, of Zanesville, passed away at 8:45 p.m. Tuesday, March 29, 2011 at the Genesis Hospice-Morrison House. He was born November 15, 1927, in Zanesville, a son of the late Lewis M. Sr. and Grace E. Teisinger Carr. He retired after 42 years of service as a supervisor for the United States Postal Service. He was a member of the Immanuel United Church of Christ, where he served as elder and deacon. He was a past master of Lafayette Masonic Lodge #79 F&AM and was a past president of the Zanesville Kiwanis Club from 1971-1972 and was a past president of the National Association of Letter Carriers. He was a member of the Aladdin Temple and the Muskingum County Association of Ancient and Accepted Scottish Rite Masons. Lewis' family came to Muskingum County in 1815 and have owned their property in Newton Township since 1823. He was a United States Navy World War II Veteran. Surviving are a daughter, Julie (Steve) Kelley of Tucson, AZ; three sons, Stephen (Julie A.) Carr of Kettering, OH, Timothy A. (Barbara J.) Carr of Crooksville, OH and David L. Carr of Westerville, OH; a step daughter, Laurel Caton of Rocky River, OH; a step son, Paul (Sharon) Miller of Lewis Center, OH; and eight grandchildren, Abby, Claire, Brita, Kelly, Joe, Daniel, Derek and Emma. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Ann Painter Carr, who died August 20, 2008. Friends and family may call from 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. Sunday, April 3, 2011 at the Bolin-Dierkes Funeral Home, 1271 Blue Ave., Zanesville and one hour prior to services at the church. Masonic Services will be held at 8:00 p.m. Sunday, April 3, 2011 at the funeral home. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, April 4, 2011 at the Immanuel United Church of Christ, 105 S 7th St., Zanesville with Rev. Louis (Rick) Dorsch and Rev. Mitch Reed officiating. Lewis will be laid to rest next to his wife, Ann, at Zanesville Memorial Park Cemetery. VFW George Selsam Post #1058 will hold full military rites at the gravesite. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, Central Region Ofc-MUSK, 870 Michigan Ave., Columbus, Ohio 43215.
