Linda S (Achauer) Steer

Linda S. Achauer Steer, 73, of Zanesville, went to be with her Lord at 5:07 p.m. Tuesday, February 8, 2011 at the Genesis Hospice-Morrison House. Linda was born June 11, 1937, in Zanesville, a daughter of the late Lawrence Dale and Elinor Gibson Achauer. Linda was a 1955 graduate of the new Zanesville High School. She was employed by the Federal Bureau of Investigation in Washington, D.C. from 1956 until 1960. While there she met her husband, Roland. She was employed for 26 years with the National Cash Register Co. in Cambridge. She and Roland lived 30 years in New Concord and 8 years in Venice, FL before moving back to Zanesville in 2002. Linda was a member of the Norwich Presbyterian Church, where she served as deacon, elder, worship committee chairperson and kitchen manager. She was also affiliated with the Gulf to Bay Decorative Artists of Sarasota, FL, The Porch Painters of Venice, FL and the Land of Legend Decorative Artists of Newark. She was a very talented artist. She was also a member and Historian for the Muskingum Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution, the Muskingum County Chapter of the Ohio Genealogical Society and the Women's Auxiliary of the Salvation Army of Zanesville. She volunteered many hours of service in the Genealogy Department of the John McIntyre Library assisting others in finding their relatives. Surviving are a daughter, Barbara Elaine Lindner of Oklawaha, FL; two sons, Donn L. (Patty) Steer of Nashport and Dean L. (Cindy) Steer of New Philadelphia, OH; six grandchildren, Caryn and Kyle Lindner, Colin, Clay, Andrew and Adam Steer; two great grandchildren, William Davies and Kadence Price; a sister, Rose Ann (Robert F.) James of Franklin, OH; four step sisters, Sally Sowers of Zanesville, Sandy (Gene) Klinehoffer of Nashport, Rita (Bernard) Hayes of Corning and Donna (Roger) Van Meter of Russiaville, IN; a niece and nephew and close friends. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Roland H. Steer, who died May 2, 2010; and her in-laws, Hubert and Evelyn Steer. Friends and family may call from 11:00 a.m. until time of service at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, February 12, 2011 at the Bolin-Dierkes Funeral Home, 1271 Blue Ave., Zanesville with Rev. Chip Steel officiating. Linda will be laid to rest beside her husband Roland at Zanesville Memorial Park Cemetery.
