Lloyd Richard Starkey, 84, of Cookeville, TN, formerly of Zanesville, OH, died at 8:20 A.M. on Thursday, October 3, 2013, at Bethesda Healthcare Center in Cookeville, TN. He was born June 16, 1929, in Philo, OH, a son of the late John and Dicey Bell Cain Starkey. He was a U.S. Navy Veteran and received the World War II Victory Medal, and had worked as a Technician for Harps Pest Control. Lloyd loved to work in his vegetable and flower gardens as well as hunt in his younger days. He enjoyed being outside, taking long walks, petting his dogs and teasing his grandchildren. Lloyd was a very joyful man. Surviving are a son Jeff (Sally) Starkey of Cookeville, TN; a daughter Julie (Mark) Hetler of Eau Claire, MI; five grandsons, Ryan Starkey, Kyle Starkey, Daniel Starkey, Matthew Hetler, and Nathen Hetler; a brother Kenneth (Freda) Starkey of Zanesville; and a sister-in-law Esther Starkey of Heath. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving girlfriend of many years Gladice "Joy" Harp; and four brothers, Edward, Leroy "Dale", Clifford, and Donald Starkey. Friends and family may call from 10:00 A.M. until time of service at 11:00 A.M. on Tuesday, October 8, 2013 at Bolin-Dierkes Funeral Home, 1271 Blue Avenue, Zanesville, with Pastor Dean Cole officiating. Lloyd will be laid to rest at Rose Hill Cemetery, Roseville, with full military honors being provided by the United States Navy in conjunction with the VFW George Selsam Post 1058.
