Louise Elizabeth Bauer, 93, of Zanesville, died at 9:30 p.m. Friday, March 21, 2008 at Genesis Good Samaritan Emergency Room. She was born July 29, 1914, in Zanesville, a daughter of the late Walter Phillip and Eda Holdieth Bauer. She was a designer & molder of ceramics. She was a member of St. Thomas Catholic Church, Mt. Carmel Group in the church, Sigma Delta PI Sorority, Beta Sigma PI Sorority, Soroptimist International and was very active in all ceramic circles. Louise received a scholarship to the Columbus School of Art in 1937. Louise was employed at Shawnee Pottery and later as a freelance designer for several potteries including, American Bisque, Florence Butler Brothers, Cookson, Rumrill, Leeds, Royal Manufacturing, Lynn Heart and Gonder. She was the principal designer at Hall Pottery for over 40 years. Little Red Riding Hood, Gingerbread Man, Ebbtide and the Disney Lines of Pottery put her in the fore front of the pottery industry and made her mark in history. Surviving are a sister, Mary Rita Bauer of the home and several cousins. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Gertrude Bauer Stephens and two brothers, George Walter Bauer and Walter Kenneth Bauer. Friends may call 4-8 p.m. Wednesday, March 26, 2008 at the Bolin-Dierkes Funeral Home, 1271 Blue Ave., Zanesville. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, March 27, 2008 at St. Thomas Catholic Church with Father Jordan McConway O.P. and Father Leo Connolly as celebrants. Burial will follow at Greenwood Cemetery. The Rosary will be recited at 3:00 p.m. Wednesday, March 26, 2008 at the funeral home.
