Marcile G. Zirke

Marcile G. Zirke, 94, of Lakewood, OH., died at 5:10 p.m. Sunday, March 21, 2010 at Genesis Good Samaritan Hospital. She was born March 9, 1916, in Cleveland, Ohio, a daughter of the late Louis and Louise Mertz Blatt. She graduated in 1934 from West High School in Cleveland and from the Mount Sinai Hospital School of Nursing in 1937. Marcile served her country in World War II as 1st Lieutenant in the US Army Nurse Corps. She served in White Sulfur Springs, WV at the Ashford General Army Hospital now the Greenbrier Hotel, Cirencester, England, France, Okinawa and in the European and Pacific Theatres. After serving her country, she continued her career as an Obstetrics RN, where she worked for the Mount Sinai, Lutheran, Lakewood and Bay View Hospitals in the Cleveland area for 40 years. After she retired, she enjoyed working with the Mobile Blood Pressure Service around the west side of Cleveland. Surviving is a daughter, Barbara L. Zirke of Zanesville. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Norman C. Zirke, who died 1991; two brothers, Wilbur O. and Clayton L. Blatt; and a sister, Elnurda L. Lipster. Friends may call 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, March 24, 2010 at the Bolin-Dierkes Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 1271 Blue Ave., Zanesville. Graveside services will be held at a later date at Whitehaven Cemetery in Mayfield Heights, Ohio. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Marcile G. Zirke Nursing Scholarship Fund, c/o Maysville Local School District, PO Box 1818, 2805 Pinkerton Rd., Zanesville, Ohio, 43702.
