Margaret E. "Betty" (Mcmanus) Cooper

Margaret E. (Betty) Cooper, 95, of Zanesville, died at 5:10 p.m. Saturday, February 18, 2012 at Primrose Retirement Community. She was born September 19, 1916, in Cambridge, Ohio, a daughter of the late Walter and Maggie Shuttleworth McManus. She was a member of St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church, the Rosary Altar Society and served as a volunteer at Good Samaritan Hospital. Margaret had retired as a Register Nurse having graduated from the Good Samaritan School of Nursing in 1937. Surviving are two sons, Thomas (Peg) Cooper of Zanesville and James (Debbie) Cooper of Hopewell; daughter-in-law, Carol Roll Cooper Droznick and husband Joel Droznick of New Hampshire; a sister, Mary Alice Lerner of Cambridge; a brother, John "Jack" McManus of Newark; eleven grandchildren, John "Bud" (Michelle) Cooper, Jed (Tiffani) Cooper, Carolyn "Ceci" (David) Vachon, Chris (Ann) Droznick, Susan (Mim) Fauteux of New Hampshire, Andy (Kendra) Cooper of Zanesville, James "Jamie" Cooper of San Diego, CA, Chris (Jamie) Cooper of Hopewell, Heidi (Garrick) Schadd of Stockport, Bart Cooper and Bret Cooper, both of Zanesville; twenty four great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Russell St. Clair Cooper, whom she married August 12, 1939 and who died March 15, 1991; her son, John Cooper, who died September 19, 1973; four brothers, Hugh McManus, Joe McManus, Roger McManus and Robert McManus, who was killed in action in World War II in the Battle of Iwo Jima; and one great grandson, Marc Cooper. Friends and family may call from 5-8 p.m. Wednesday, February 22 where Vigil services will be held at 7:00 p.m. at the Bolin-Dierkes Funeral Home, 1271 Blue Ave., Zanesville. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, February 23, 2012 at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church, 144 N 5th Street, Zanesville with Fr. Jordan Turano, O.P. as celebrant. Margaret will be laid to rest beside her beloved husband, Russell, at Mt. Olive Cemetery, Zanesville.
