Marilyn J. Dick, age 90, of Zanesville, passed away at her home on Saturday, May 1, 2021. She was born June 6, 1930, in Zanesville, a daughter of the late Grover and Lenora Ruth (Swingle) Bridwell. She graduated in 1948 from Lash (Zanesville) High School. She was a graduate of Ohio University with a Degree in Elementary Education and a Master’s Degree in Early Childhood Education from The Ohio State University.
Marilyn loved to dance and was in Marjorie Holzschuher Sellers first dance class in 1933. She taught baton, ballroom, tap, jazz, ballet and toe top for 14 years and danced at the Dance Studio for over 45 years. She returned to dance at recitals on special anniversaries. She began her teaching career in the Zanesville City Schools at McKinley Elementary School in 1967 and taught Kindergarten for 30 years at Wilson, Lincoln, McIntire, and Westview Elementary Schools. She was very active with the Zanesville Devilettes for over 43 years where she attended summer camps, ballgames, and completed inspections on the Devilettes before football games. She was also a judge at various team competitions in Ohio, Illinois, and Missouri.
Marilyn was a member and former President of Delta Kappa Gamma, a Women’s Education Society, for 46 years. She was a Sunday School Teacher and member of First Christian Church for 71 years. She enjoyed traveling, walking, and exercised regularly.
She was married for 63 years to C. Trafford Dick, who preceded her in death on April 1, 2016. She is survived by her two children, Trafford Dick and Valencia (Dick) Clark, and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her brother, Richard Bridwell.
Friends and family may call from 1:00 P.M. until the time of the funeral service at 2:00 P.M. on Thursday, May 6, 2021 at First Christian Church, 3000 Dresden Road, Zanesville with Pastor Dawn Remster officiating. She will be laid to rest at Zanesville Memorial Park Cemetery, Zanesville.
